 Bio:
Gäa stands for Gaia in English, the Greek goddess of earth. This band from Saarland (Germany) chose it as their name. Gäa was founded at 1973 by Helmut Heisel (guitar), Peter Bell (bass) and Stefan Dörr (drums). They were friends from school times, and they had learned to play in a band called "The Phantoms", which played only cover songs. Later the Gäa had more personnel, as Günther Lackes joined for playing keyboards, Werner Frey on guitar and singing and Werner Jungmann playing on congas. Helmut Heisel left the band at this time. 
They had lots of gigs, and got a recording deal from the Kerston label. Gäa recorded 1973 their first album in Alfred Kersten's studio having very bad recording conditions, and the material was released on small vinyl edition called "Auf Der Bahn Zum Uranus" (On the track to Uranus) at the year 1974. It was a rare collectors item for a long time, but it was re-released on CD in 1992. The band members weren't very happy for the quality of the record at the time it was released. 
Gäa continued doing gigs, and they had some personnel changes again. Both Werner Jungman and Peter Bell left the group, and the first guitarist Helmut Heisel rejoined them and played the bass. They recorded three new songs in Leico studios at 1975, but for reason or another, they didn't do more material, and the band was quitted in year 1978. Those who were at the band when it split, have all stayed in making music. They did some playing with the same Gäa personnel during the 80's and some their music were recorded on tape in their training room. Those tracks surviving from that time have been released along with the tracks from 1975 sessions as a CD called "Alraunes Alptraum" (Alruna's nighmare). Alruna is the earth-spirit of german mythology. Album covers for both of these releases were done by Peter Bell's brother Eduard, and they are about these earth goddesses.

CAN   -   FUTURE   DAYS  1973.

The final CAN album featuring Damo Suzuki as vocalist is probably the most accomplished one. It is very different from their earlier works and it introduces the band offering highly atmospheric, almost ambient music.
There are no ups and downs; listening adventure is mostly linear but that doesn't mean it is monotonous. On the contrary - it is a wonderful music of atmosphere.
Production is superb for the time being and most of the engineering and editing credits go to Holger Czukay and Irmin Schmidt who successfully experiment with various keyboards, synths, sound effects and "soundscapes", sometimes reminiscent of Brian Eno's later works.

CAN   -  EGE  BAMYASI  1972.

The fourth CAN album is another excellent addition to a collection of progressive rock.On this album, there's a slight Middle Eastern influence, no doubt for the fact they named their album after a can of Okra they found in a Turkish restaraunt in Germany. "Ege Bamyasi" has everything the neophyte listener needs to understand why CAN was such a musical force. It’s all here: the rhythmically busy, near paranormal jamming; the quieter, more hypnotic ballads.

RARE  EARTH STORY

 

 

In 1961 a group of high school buddies formed a band and called it "The Sunliners".After playing for about seven years the group decided to change the name of the band. Hence forth comes "Rare Earth".

Motown Record Corporation approached Rare Earth in the latter part of 1968 to sign a recording contract. At first the group was reluctant to sign because of knowing of other white groups and artists before them that had not had any success because Motown was geared for promotion and distrubution in the black market only. It was when Motown decided they wanted to launch a new division of Motown to cater to white artists that Rare Earth started to seriously consider signing.

Motown did not have a name for the new division and lable so jokeingly the band suggested the name Rare Earth. Unbelieveably they agreed. That convinced the band that Motown was serious about making Rare Earth their first successful white band and they were going to sign more white acts to be on the "Rare Earth" Label. To clear up a long time false statement that Rare Earth was the only white act to ever be signed with Motown, Rare Earth was the one and only successful white band to be signed with Motown. Rare Earth was with Motown from 1968 to 1978.

The band had been playing the song "Get Ready" in clubs for about a year or two prior to recording it. It started out a 3 minute song until one member took a solo and then everyone wanted a solo so over time the song became 21 minutes long. It became the closing song each night and people liked it so much they would stay just to hear it.

The band decided that "Get Ready" would be Rare Earth's first recording, to be 21 minutes long and to be one whole side of the first album. Motown was leary about doing this but the band insisted because radio was starting to play album cuts which were longer than the normal 3 minute single. "Get Ready" first broke in Washington D.C. in the black market, spread across the country and eventually into the white market. It was a huge hit selling millions of records and remaining on the charts for almost 3 years. Some of Rare Earth's other hits from 1969 to 1974 were songs such as "Big Brother","Born to wander", "Tobacco road", "Losin You", and "I Just Want To Celebrate".

A few Words:
If you ever wonder who played guitar in one of the best David Bowie's album "The rise
and fall of Ziggy Stardust" then,you don't have to wonder anymore.Ladies and
Gentlemen MICK RONSON.
Most talented guitarist, composer, arranger and producer who also played several other istruments born at the 26th of May 1946 in Hull (UK) and died at the 29th of April 1993.
His first instruments as a kid where the piona, recorder, violin and harmonium, later he started to play guitar. He joined his first band called The Mariners in November 1963 at an age of 17, later he joined The Crestas which he left in 1965 to move to London (UK) where he soon joined Voice, which soon after disbanded.
He joined the soul band The Wanted for a short period before he moved back to Hull (UK). There he joined The Rats in 1966 which changed their name into Treacle in 1968 which wasn't a succes as well. In 1970 was asked to join David Bowie's backing band The Hype and at the 5th of February of 1970 he made his debut with David Bowie at the Peel Sessions in BBC Radio 1.
Later on Mick played for a short period with "Mott the The Hoople" and another line up
called "Hunter Ronson Band".Soon, he found himself a member of " Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue" a side project typical of Dylan and even more typical of the time.
Mick also appeared in Elton John's"Tumbleweed connection",Lou Reed's"Transformer" and many more.
