Hendrix began work on the musical composition for "Valleys of Neptune", under the title of "Gypsy Blood", in February 1969, with the first recordings taking place at Olympic Sound Studios in London on February 22 & 26, 1969 – three takes on guitar and piano and one take on guitar, respectively.[1] Hendrix wrote the lyrics for the song under the title of "Valleys of Neptune... Arising" on June 7, 1969, inspired by the writings of 'the sleeping prophet' Edgar Cayce regarding the rediscovery of mythical Isle of Atlantis.

Rumble” is the only instrumental track ever banned from U.S. radio. Officials feared that the track would incite riots, that it would bring about broken glass and drawn knives, that it would give the youth a flame with which to burn down cities.

WRay has been called the godfather of the guitar power chord and the father of heavy metal rock.

The Who's Pete Townshend said he never would have picked up a guitar had it not been for Link Wray and "Rumble." Neil Young was another fan of those basic chords from an electric guitar and played loud.
