BRIAN MAY - 1992 BACK TO THE LIGHT DE LUXE EDITION rem. 2021 2cd.
Back to the Light (1992), Brian May’s first solo album allowed May to express himself clearly as a solo artist and not just simply as the guitarist in Queen. However, it also served as a cathartic experience for him and a way to work through the depressionand misery he was facing in the early 1990’s.
The late 1980’s and early 1990’s had been very hard for Brian May: he had recently split up from his wife .The deaths of his father and Freddie Mercury weighed heavily on him and he perceived himself as both a failure of husband and father. Indeed, he has said on many occasions that he felt like suicide during this time in his life.
Brian May described the making of Back to the Light as ‘therapy’ and thus many of the songs are very autobiographical and vocals are emotive and powerful, and you can clearly feel the anguish he is going through in every syllable.
Back to the Light is a fantastic album that chronicles one of the worlds greatest guitarists overcoming his demons. In the latest DE LUXE EDITION are 2 cd's and the album features several significant guest artists as well –
Queen’s John Deacon makes an appearance on bass guitar, as well as Don Airey (Deep Purple) on keyboards,
Cozy Powell (Black Sabbath / Rainbow / Whitesnake), plays the drums on several songs on this record,
and Neil Murray (Black Sabbath / Whitesnake) plays bass as well on a few songs,
both of which would form the backbone of May’s touring band.

PAUL COSSOFF - KOSS 1977.
Paul Francis Kossoff (14 September 1950 – 19 March 1976) was an English guitarist, best known as the co-founder and guitarist for the rock band Free. He was ranked number 51 in Rolling Stones list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
At age nine, Kossoff started classical guitar lessons with Blanche Monroe. His classical guitar training continued until he was fifteen. In December 1965 he saw Eric Clapton with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers at The Refectory, Golders Green, North West London. This encounter inspired him to purchase a Gibson Les Paul guitar.
In 1966 Kossoff joined the Chicago-style blues band Black Cat Bones. The band played with touring blues piano player Champion Jack Dupree, often supporting Fleetwood Mac and other gigs with Fleetwood Mac co-founder Peter Green.
n April 1968, Kossoff and Kirke teamed up with Paul Rodgers (vocals) and Andy Fraser (bass) to form Free.
Kossoff then assembled a group called Back Street Crawler, which released two albums: The Band Plays On in 1975 and 2nd Street in 1976. Recordings from one of the band's UK concerts in 1975 were first released in 1983 on the album Live at Croydon Fairfield Halls 15/6/75.

JOE WHITING \ MARK DOYLE - DOWN IN THE DIRT 2021.
Guitarist Mark Doyle and vocalist Joe Whiting have been performing
together since 1968.
Starting with Free Will / Jukin’ Bone onto The Doyle-Whiting Band
Led by vocalist Joe Whiting and lead guitarist Mark Doyle, the band also featured George Egosarian on second guitar, John DeMaso on bass, and Tom Glaister on drums. This was the line-up that recorded their first album for RCA, ‘Whiskey Woman’. By the time of their second LP, ‘Way Down East,’ Tom Glaister had been replaced by two drummers, Danny Coward and Kevin Shwaryk.
While signed to RCA, the band toured with ZZ Top, Freddie King, The Allman Brothers, The Kinks, John Mayall, and Three Dog Night, among others. They disbanded acrimoniously in 1973, although Doyle and Whiting went on to record several fine albums together on the Blue Wave and Free Will labels, and also achieved individual success in their lengthy careers – Mark as either producer/music director/guitarist for the likes of Meat Loaf, Bryan Adams, Hall & Oates, Mary Fahl, et al and Joe with Bobby Comstock, Savoy Brown, and as tour opener for Van Halen

JIMMY PAGE - THIS GUITAR KILLS 2003 2cd.
This volume of JIMMY PAGE's 60s sessions traces the story from his very first studio recordings -in 1962, as a member of Neil Christian's Crusaders through a maze of hits (Dave Berry. Brenda Lee. Burt Bacharach). near-hits (The Redcaps. Mickey Finn & The Blue Men. Mickie Most) and downright obscurities (Bobby Graham. The Talismen. Vashti) closing on a frighteningly-rare (and equally-magnificent) 1967 French Johnny Hallyday single.
2-CD, forty-three track collection of Jimmy Page's pre-Yardbirds / Led Zeppelin days. Has many good, surprising and lesser-known songs to fully experience. Disc one is material that Page served as a session guitarist for many artists from 1962-64. Liked the hip-sounding "Your Momma's Out Of Town", Chuck Berry's "Talking About You", the Mercybeat-like "Jenny Let Him Go", "Without You" and the happening "Climbing Through" best. Disc two moves forward to the 1965-68 era. Wasn't aware that Page lent a helping hand to so many artists like Mickie Most, Peggy Lee, Jackie DeShannon, Mickey Finn, Dave Berry, Alvin Johnson, Bob Dylan and it looks like one tune by the Stones - "Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind".
Also two Ray Davies tunes that show up, the rarely heard "One Fine Day" and the Kinks standard "You Really Got Me". A rather nifty collection of odds and ends of Page's [seemingly] endless repertoire.Mike Reed.
